Is Denmark still a vibrant democracy? What is the state of political involvement? How much and how do Danes participate in politics? Are the social differences greater? And what is the state of the social and political trust and the attitude towards the community?

These are the questions in this book, which outlines the Danes' political citizenship - their participation in and relation to politics in a broad sense - on the basis of the Danish Democracy and Power Study's extensive questionnaire survey of 1640 Danes interviewed in 2000. The study is part of a large international project, which for the first time ever makes detailed comparisons with other countries possible, and lets us track the development in key areas over the past 20-30 years.

The book paints a picture of involved and rather active citizens, both compared to other countries and compared to earlier. But the traditional political channels of influence are weakened. Participation is more concentrated around individual forms and close-to-home issues. Quite paradoxically, this has weakened neither the sense of community nor the political involvement in the "great" political questions.
