Voter turnout in Danish local elections has remained around 70 percent for a long period. According to temperament, it is either a good thing that voter turnout is relatively stable, or it is cause for concern that about one third of the Danish population does not find it important to vote. In any case, it is reasonable to ask: who does not vote? An analysis of the approx. 630,000 eligible voters in Copenhagen and Aarhus municipalities shows that primarily very young people, cash benefit recipients and ethnic minorities abstain from voting. The variation among the ethnic minorities is significant, however. Voter turnout among Pakistanis in Copenhagen and Turks in Aarhus is as high as among Danish citizens. cover-12389.jpg (50499 bytes)
